Most severe transformer failures develop gradually. Periodic oil testing is one of the few practical ways to see inside the sealed insulation system without opening the unit. It detects early fault gases, moisture ingress, oxidation, and contamination that reduce dielectric strength and cooling performance. Catching these issues early prevents forced outages, fires, and long replacement lead times. Oil data also supports risk based maintenance by prioritizing which units need filtration, degassing, or deeper diagnostics. Reliability improves because interventions become proactive rather than reactive after a trip or catastrophic fault.
