Furanic analysis measures furan compounds dissolved in oil that originate from thermal and oxidative degradation of cellulose paper insulation. Rising furans often indicate progressing paper aging even when electrical tests look acceptable. This helps asset managers estimate remaining insulation life, prioritize refurbishment, and evaluate whether high temperature operation or moisture is accelerating degradation. Furan results are interpreted with loading history, moisture, and DGA because furans can lag behind recent events and can be influenced by oil replacement or reclamation. It is most valuable as a trend tool across repeated samples.
