Furan analysis detects degradation of cellulose paper insulation by measuring furanic compounds dissolved in oil. These compounds indicate thermal aging and loss of mechanical strength in paper insulation. Furan trends help estimate remaining life of transformer insulation and support decisions on loading, refurbishment, or replacement, especially when combined with temperature history and DGA results.
