Transformer oil power factor, or tan delta, indicates dielectric losses under AC voltage. Higher values suggest contamination, moisture, or aging byproducts that reduce insulation quality. It is sensitive to polar contaminants and often increases before BDV drops significantly. Monitoring power factor trends helps identify early oil degradation and supports timely maintenance actions.
