To test a transformer using a multimeter, first ensure the transformer is disconnected from power. Set the multimeter to the resistance (ohms) setting. Measure the primary winding by connecting the probes to the input terminals; a low resistance indicates a good winding. Next, measure the secondary winding in the same manner. Additionally, check for continuity between the windings and ensure there are no shorts to the core. A significant difference in resistance values may indicate a fault.
