Mineral oil is cost-effective, widely available, and proven, but has lower fire point and biodegradability. Natural ester oils offer higher fire safety, biodegradability, and better moisture management for paper insulation. Synthetic esters provide high thermal stability and fire resistance but at higher cost. Selection depends on voltage level, environmental sensitivity, fire risk, and transformer design compatibility.
