How do you perform an oil furnace ignition transformer test safely?

Power is isolated, wiring inspected, and primary resistance measured with a multimeter. Secondary output is verified using a spark tester. Direct voltage measurement is avoided due to high ignition voltage. PPE and insulated tools are mandatory.
