Degassing transformer oil involves removing dissolved gases from the oil to improve its insulating properties. The oil is heated and placed in a vacuum chamber, where the reduced pressure lowers the boiling points of the dissolved gases. As the gases vaporize, they are extracted by vacuum pumps, leaving the oil purified and free of gas bubbles that can cause electrical discharges.
