Dielectric strength is tested using a breakdown voltage tester where oil is placed between standard electrodes and voltage is increased at a controlled rate until breakdown occurs. Multiple tests are averaged for accuracy. Results are compared against standard limits. Proper sample handling is critical, as moisture or air bubbles can distort results. This test is one of the most fundamental indicators of oil condition.
