Acceptable moisture content depends on voltage level and transformer condition, but in-service transformer oil typically should remain below several tens of ppm. High-voltage transformers require particularly low moisture levels to maintain dielectric strength and protect paper insulation. Moisture trends are critical, as increasing ppm values indicate insulation aging, leaks, or breather system issues requiring corrective action.
