Environmental regulations require secondary containment systems such as oil pits, bund walls, concrete basins, or sealed liners capable of holding the full oil volume plus rainwater. Oil-water separators and drainage controls are often mandated. The goal is to prevent soil and groundwater contamination in case of leaks or catastrophic failure. Design must comply with local environmental protection rules and fire safety standards.
