Which oil is used in transformer insulation systems?

Transformer insulation systems commonly use mineral insulating oil compliant with IEC 60296. In applications requiring enhanced fire safety or environmental performance, natural ester, synthetic ester, or silicone oils are used. The selected oil must be compatible with transformer design, solid insulation materials, operating temperature, and maintenance practices defined by the utility or manufacturer.
